Parabaas Axar and AxarBangla can be installed on Microsoft Windows, Solaris (Sparc) and Linux. It probably will work on Solaris (Intel) and Mac as well. However we have not tested the products on these platforms yet.

Version: 1.7.x

Installation on Windows:

(i) Download JRE1.3 from SUN's Java Site: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre/download-windows.html

(ii) Install JRE1.3 in your PC by double clicking on the Installation Icon of JRE.

(iii) Download the file  AxarBangla1.7.5.zip . Remember AxarBangla has many new features to offer if you use Bangla/Ahamiya only. Download Axar1.7.1.zip instead, if you are willing to give up Font-Font conversion for Hindi/Marathi word processing support.

Unpack the archive file and save the contents in a directory. Make sure a copy of ItxBeng.ttf and   xdvng.ttf   are present in the same directory.

(IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A UTILITY TO UNZIP CLICK HERE FOR "AXARBANGLA". DOWNLOAD EVERY FILE AND SUBDIRECTORY YOU SEE AND SAVE THEM IN A LOCAL DIRECTORY CALLED 'AXARBANGLA'. CLICK HERE INSTEAD IF YOU WANT "AXAR". DOWNLOAD EVERY FILE YOU SEE AND SAVE THEM IN A LOCAL DIRECTORY CALLED 'AXAR'. )

(iv) Unzip and then Instal font files ItxBeng.ttf and xdvng.ttf in your PC. The easiest way to install fonts in Windows is to save the fontfile in a temporary directory and then dragging and dropping it in the directory "MyComputer\Control Panel\Fonts".

(v) One of the files you'll get is called Axar*1.7.x.jar. Double click this file to start Parabaas Axar or AxarBangla.
 
 

Installation on Solaris(Sparc):

(i) Download JRE1.3 for Solaris from SUN's Java Site:
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/earlyAccess/j2sdk13/download-solaris.html
(You'll need to register to download this software).

(ii) To install JRE you may follow SUN's instructions at http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/earlyAccess/j2sdk13/install-solaris-re.html or consult your system administrator. A simple set of instructions that works is given below. However this involves renaming the link to your Java Home. You should probably restore the Java Home when you are not using Axar.

(a) Type "chmod +x j2re1_3_0beta-solsparc.bin" to make the downoladed file an executable. This will create the directory  j2re1_3_0beta where the JRE is housed. Suppose the complete path to this directory is /somepath.../j2re1_3_0beta.

(b)  Login as root (type "su" and type password for root). First remove the exisiting link to the Java Home (type "rm /usr/java") and then type "ln -s /somepath.../j2re1_3_0beta /usr/java".

(iii) Download the file  AxarBangla1.7.5.zip . Remember AxarBangla has many new features to offer if you use Bangla/Ahamiya only. Download Axar1.7.1.zip instead, if you are willing to give up Font-Font conversion for Hindi/Marathi word processing support.

(v) One of the files you'll get is called Axar*1.7.x.jar. Type "java -jar Axar*1.7.x.jar &" to start the application.
