What you can do if the Bengali font is not
rendered
For articles in Parabaas-48 (or later):
From 25th Boishakh, 2011, Parabaas is moving to "unicode" from the "itxbeng"-based platform. So, for a while at least, we may have a mixed
environment: Newer articles will be in "unicode" while the older ones will be in "itxbeng". Do let us know if you still have problems.
1. Download Unicode-compliant Bengali font, namely, Siyam Rupali or SolaimanLipi from here, or, if you are on Mac, from here. ( Save the downloaded font, say, on the desktop. Then, for mac, Mac-OSX > hard drive > library > fonts . You will get a long alphabetical list of fonts. Drag the saved font and drop in that font list. That's it. )
2. If your browser is Firefox, and its version is less than 3.0, update it to the current version.
3. If using Internet Explorer:
Click on Tools --> then Internet Options--> then Click on the Fonts button--> select Language Script "Bengali", and Webpage font: "Siyam Rupali" or "SolaimanLipi"-->then, Click "Ok".
Then, Go to your browser's "view" menu and set the "character encoding" or "encoding" feature to: Unicode (UTF-8)
4. If the OS of your PC is Windows XP:
Go to Control Panel-->then Click on "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options"-->then Click on "Add other languages"-->then Click on "Laguages" tab, and Select "Install files for complex scripts and right to left languages" and then Click "OK".
For articles in Parabaas-47 (or older issues, published before May 11, 2011):
1. If the URL shows as "http://parabaas.com/...", try first by inserting a "www." before "parabaas"--i.e. "http://www.parabaas.com/...".
2. Download the itxbeng.ttf font and save it in the font directory of your computer. {To do that, (a) first download the font and save it, say, on the Desktop. (b) Click 'Start' -> 'Control Panel' -> 'Fonts' (c) "Drag and drop" (or "Copy and Paste") the downloaded font from the "Desktop" (or wherever you have saved it) into the Fonts directory.)
3. From the Menubar in Microsoft Explorer choose 'View' -> 'Encoding' ->
'User Defined'.
3a. If using Firefox browser, from the Menubar choose 'View' -> 'Character Encoding' ->
one of the 'Western (Windows)' fonts displayed in the list.
4. On Netscape choose 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Appearence' ->
'Fonts' ->
'Use document specified fonts including dynamic fonts'.
5. Browsers older that Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 4.5 may not be able to
render dynamic fonts. Netscape 6.2 is also unable to render dynamic fonts.
If your browser is unable to render the Bengali font because of the above
reasons or due to a setting that intereferes with dynamic fonts, the easiest
remedy is to download the font 'ItxBeng' from this page and load it in your
computer.
