Born in 1962, Pracheta Gupta (প্রচেত গুপ্ত) was brought up in a literary atmosphere. In spite of graduating in Economics, he chose writing as his main occupation and soon became a popular writer. Many of his stories have been translated in English, Hindi, Oriya and other languages. Noted movie director Tarun Majumder made a film based on his story ‘Chander Bari.’ Many other stories also have been used in numerous films, telefilms and plays. He has been awarded Bengal Academy‘s Sutapa Raichowdhury Memorial Award and Shailajananda Mukhopadhya Memorial award.
