    Reduced to rubble by the cannon's quake
    Tonight many a sacrificial offering lies strewn about, cold.
    Below a mountain—wristwatches on some of them
    Whose hands of time perhaps yet slowly circle.
    Beneath the moon's glow all these strange timekeepers
    Will talk for a while—
    And tripping as if with the gladdened urges of their mechanical hearts,
    Will sip bright starlight.
    Puddles of dewdrops fallen from olive leaves,
    Sounds of a distant sea,
    The wailing of wind—desolate, like a white sheet,
    Their life's story will tick on a few moments more.
    Dim, and growing ever dimmer,
    They will wake to endless darkness of inexhaustible sunlight.


    রিস্টওয়াচ

    কামানের ক্ষোভে চূর্ণ হয়ে
    আজ রাতে ঢের মেধ হিম হ'য়ে আছে দিকে-দিকে।
    পাহাড়ের নিচে--তাহাদের কারু-কারু মণিবন্ধে ঘড়ি
    সময়ের কাঁটা হয়তো বা ধীরে-ধীরে ঘুরাতেছে;
    চাঁদের আলোর নিচে এই সব অদ্ভুত প্রহরী
    কিছুক্ষণ কথা কবে;--
    হৃদয়যন্ত্রের যেন প্রীত আকাঙ্ক্ষার মতো ন'ড়ে,
    সমুজ্জ্বল নক্ষত্রের আলো গিলে।
    জলপাইপল্লবের তলে ঝরা বিন্দু-বিন্দু শিশিরের রাশি
    দূর সমুদ্রের শব্দ
    শাদা চাদরের মতো--জনহীন--বাতাসের ধ্বনি
    দু-এক মুহূর্ত আরো ইহাদের গড়িবে জীবনী।
    স্তিমিত--স্তিমিত আরো ক'রে দিয়ে ধীরে
    ইহারা উঠিবে জেগে অফুরন্ত রৌদ্রের অনন্ত তিমিরে।
